solarhippie: ([neu] And the plan is what?)
It was pretty hard to find a good place for a portal in a city like Los Angeles, outside of an actual Portalocity hub. It helped that this was Marvel not an entirely mundane kind of LA (if such a thing existed anywhere in the multiverse), but still, Karolina had found a place that worked, even if it wasn't perfect. This park didn't have a lot of people in it once it started getting dark. It worked.

So here were Karolina and Nico, walking along to the slightly more secluded part where they were supposed to welcome Liara to Los Angeles for the weekend. The rest were supposed to come meet up with them here – they'd split up to do shopping in teams of two. Also, Karolina hadn't wanted to overwhelm Liara.

... Or get overwhelmed herself. This was making her a little more nervous than she would've admitted, although she was pretty sure Nico could tell. The other girl looked pretty curious. Almost amused.

And then they were there. And then there was a portal.

Say hi to Xavin, folks. And bye to Karolina! For awhile, anyway. )

So, they'd made it back to the lair, late at night. The way they were bringing Victor along was somewhere between a hostage situation and... Well, something less unpleasant. It was mostly Karolina that was trying to make it into the latter. She kept reminding Victor that they really were trying to look out for him as well as themselves. He just didn't seem all that convinced. Maybe because they didn't let him call anyone. And Nico cast a spell on him as soon as they were at the Hostel, to dampen his powers.

But those were just precautions!

You just don't get days that don't feel long as hell in the 616, do you? )

And that had been the middle of the night. It was the afternoon now. Down in the Hostel. Karolina had slept for a good ten hours, exhausted, but she was awake now. Finally. And another thing that finally happened? Her cell phone actually worked for multiversal calls. That was good, because she really needed to talk to both Jim and Liara. For a few reasons, not limited to telling them she needed to stay here a while.

It had been a long, long night and morning.

And the day wasn't going to feel any shorter, either. )

It had been what passed for normal in LA for the past few days. Minor skirmishes, for the most part. Although they had finally caught up with the Wrecking Crew this evening. Tried talking some sense into the kid with them. Hadn't succeeded.

Well, maybe you couldn't save them all. Even though Karolina felt a little bit bad about it, they'd left him unconcious with the rest of the Crew and hightailed it out of there before the police showed up. Back to their lair underneath the La Brea museum. Once they got there and were disembarking the Leapfrog, the conversation had turned to LA's current situation, not for the first time this week. And specifically, the power vacuum that had been created with their parents' deaths. Nico argued for how there had at least been order to things when the Pride had been around, even though they'd been horrible people. Chase, ever the mature one, retorted, right as they were walking past Gert's parents' old time machine, "Hey, if you want your mommy and daddy back so bad, why don't you hop in the Yorkes' old time machine and rescue 'em from the past?"

Time travel and sadness, oh my. )

There were ways in which it was great to be home in LA.

And then there was having six teenagers and a dinosaur all cramped together in a ship that didn't so much fly as jump. Not that they'd been doing that much since last night: they'd parked the Leapfrog – cloaked, of course – on Venice Beach, and there they were still, even after a night of fitful sleep.

It was a new day. They'd probably have to figure out breakfast at some point.

Not to mention some other, bigger things.

"Anyone wanna play cards with me?" Molly asked. "... Did anyone bring cards?"

[ooc: NFB, and for the guy who is here.]
solarhippie: ([neu] Attentively.)
It took over an hour to get from the observatory to where they were going, but what was a rescue mission without having to travel a bit? (Okay, Molly complained half the way over, but that was to be expected.) And once they got to the general area Chase had led them to (mostly warehouses, it seemed), it was mostly just a question of wandering around until Gert's dino sense led them somewhere.

So naturally they were all following her. Eventually, her frown lightened some. "Guys, I think I'm getting something," she said, and started towards one building in particular.

Star Trek meets Stark Tech. I can't believe it took me until now to come up with that lame joke. )

This was it. The better part of a year after Karolina had left Los Angeles, she was finally back, and meeting up with the rest of the Pride's kids. She'd sent each of them a message, telling them to meet her in the same place they'd met up in the first time they'd ran away: the James Dean memorial at Griffith Observatory. And she wasn't alone, either. Jim had tagged along. The trek up to the observatory was longer than Karolina remembered. Maybe it was because she'd never been here in the darkness of 1 AM, in the middle of the night. Or maybe it just felt that way because she was unsure whether they'd actually find anyone up there. She had a backpack, and kept fingering the straps a little nervously while she walked.

"I just hope they all got my messages."

That was about all she could hope for, right? That they hadn't come all the way to LA for nothing?

Meet the gang of runaways. )
